Malama Aina Eco-Education Center

We at Malama Aina Eco-education Center are committed to developing and educating people here in Hawaii a sustainable way of raising chickens, ducks, fish, and goats and ways to enhance our sovereignty as an island.

Hemp For Alternative Housing & Soil

Recognized as a super accumulator it could have a significant role in clearing the pollutants from Lahaina's soils.  It is also perfect for revitalizing Maui's agricultural areas, returning them to a productive and fertile state. Hempcrete can be used to build one house for every acre planted to industrial hemp.

This project commenced in 2023 and is on going.

Soil Remediation with Natural Biological Amendments

Maui can grow year around and yet so few do because it is difficult to work with our damaged soils. The damage started back when the Hawaiian kings started to sell the Sandelwood and Koa trees. This sort of deforestation started drying out the soils and the small water cycle of our island was impacted. This trend was accelerated by the sugar and pineapple industries which opened up over 100 square miles of agricultural land on Maui – removing native vegetation that cycled water from ocean evaporation and protected soil microbes from the tropical sun. Step one in reversing this downward spiral is to work with the microbial communities.

This project commenced in 2023 and is on going.

Maui Ohana Gardens

We support people across the county to grow food in their backyards and neighborhoods. This project was funded by the county of Maui and was completed in 2021.
